15mm. Italian wars X. Landsknecht Pikes and the collection so far

The first Landsknecht pikebloc is finished. After 3 months of working on 15mm Renaissance, i am starting to create something of an army, well an Imperialist one anyway!
I  almost added some Venexia  italian wars miniatures to my lead pile after bidding on ebay , but in the end lost out to higher bidders,i would love to have added some of these now out of production miniatures to my collection, and a real shame they are not in production anymore. I believe a company called Sgt Major miniatures purchased the molds of the figures from Venexia!

I intend to continue focusing on the Imperialists with Landsknecht  Arquebusiers,  a command base with Gotz Von Berlichingen, perhaps a organ gun from museum miniatures, and a Imperialist camp scene.

Beyond that, i will turn my brushes to the Spanish, and Khurasan's early Renaissance Spanish range look the best choice, with some very nice figures.

All the flags are Petes flags paper prints.

And this is the whole German Renaissance army so far

  5. Amazing work in 15mm! I think this scale is a nice compromise for detail - as you've clearly demonstrated - and mass formations.

  6. Fantastic work. I don't know how you manage to achieve such a volume of work at such an exceptionally and consistently high standard. I love the sense of movement you have achieved with those deep pike blocks - they look straight out of a Durer engraving, just before the point of impact. The colours and detail are spot on too, as always.

I saw those Venexia models on ebay too but they finished way beyond my maximum. I would have liked the Gendarmes to go with the 11 (an unfortunate number) that I already have. Such a shame they went out of production. If Sgt. Major have the masters and they are in a usable state, maybe seeing such high prices on ebay will encourage them to push on and get them into use but I think I read they were pretty badly deteriorated so we might be out of luck. If not, maybe Khurusan or Totentanz might be interested in doing something but it looks like they are committed to the later 16th C and 30 years war respectively.

    1. Thanks, and yes you would think if Sgt major seen the prices they fetch they would do something to get them in production again, it shows the high regard those Venexia miniatures have! But for £30+ pounds i would rather get 36 Essex Gendarmes as opposed to 12 Venexia!!!!

  7. A beautiful army in 15mm Chris, I am really impressed.

I hope you do manage to get hold of some of those Venexia figures, they are great sculpts and I would love to see you paint some up to add to this army.

    1. Thankyou Oli, ironic how i really loved the Venexia minis when they came out,but had no interest in the 15mm scale, and now i have decided to do the Renaissance in 15s ,the blighters are no longer in production! If only i could have seen into the future!

    2. I stopped collecting before they came out and re-started after they were no-longer available. The joys of hindsight.
