Spanish Gendarmes 15mm Renaissance

The first half of  my Spanish Renaissance Gendarmes completed. They are Essex miniatures and the flags are the amazing petes flags, i have said it before and will say it again these flags are superb with amazing detail and rich colour printed on good quality paper, and up to now have made an enormous contribution to the splendour of my Renaissance Gendarmes units!

My 15mm Medieval/ Renaissance collection so far.

Not the best photos i have ever taken but i wanted to get the feel of the respective collections grouped together and how far i had got, and i am pleased with how far i have got to date.

                                                     The Swiss/Burgundian wars so far.

The Renaissance so far.

The next 15mm unit on the to do list is underway in the shape of 12 Spanish Gendarmes which should cover the heavy cavalry of the period, but if anyone thinks i have missed any out please let me know.

Happy Halloween everyone.

Ye old Burgundian standard bearer.

I say Ye old as i made this about 8 years ago when i was younger and more creative with miniatures!
If memory serves me right i spent a week cutting, burring and modelling with green stuff to transform this figure and perhaps as long again on painting the flag, horse, and rider.

Back to modern times the 15mm campaign is forming with 12 Essex Renaissance Gendarmes ready to be painted as Spanish heavy cavalry, and i have recieved 200 Landsknechts from old glory, consisting of pikemen, sword and halberdiers, command and artillary.  There was a lot of choice on manufacturers but in the end i went with old glory as they have large bags of 50 figures with plenty of variety and at a unbeatable price, and another bonus i had not seen was they came with there own hard wire pikes, and the figures look pretty good too.

More Caesarian Romans

Once again foundry Caesarians with Aventine shields and standard.

And i got the nib pen and ink out during the week, i copied it from one of osprey books. Landsknechts are cool to draw with their slashing and plumes!

15mm Burgundian archers

24 burgundian archers finally completed! They are all Legio heroica miniatures .
I thought the stakes might add a bit more scenery and feel to them and were the spare ends of the pikes i cut down for the 15mm Swiss Pikebloc i did a while back!

Caesarians

I continue to try and reduce the small pile of Caesarian Romans, this time with the well known yellow wings emblems!
I hope to have the bits of 28mm stuff out the way in next few months and then go full on with the 15mm projects i want to do!

15mm Renaissance German heavy cavalry

Thats the German heavy cavalry unit completed, the flags are petes flags, i always find his flags great but these ones are the best ones yet, outstanding detail. Figures are Essex miniatures, and i stuck to a black, yellow, red and white colour scheme.
Next on the 15mm front is 24 legio heroica Burgundian archers.

Foundry Caesarian Romans

Very enjoyable to paint , Romans have a lot of  metal ! All shields and standard from Aventine miniatures, i added more curve on shields as they look a bit flat.

28mm Caesarian Romans

I have taken a small detour from 15s to try and get some of my small pile of foundry Caesarian Romans completed. The standard is from Aventine miniatures as are the shields which have been bent inwards to add a bit more curve to them.

15mm Renaissance German knights 1

The first of 12 German Renaissance heavy cavalry, i have stuck to black, yellow, red and white colour scheme and to give them a different look to the french gendarmes am giving the majority of horse armour a embossed steel look, or at least thats the idea!

Pete at Petes flags sent me a totally un expected and most welcoming free paper sheets of Landsknecht banners in 15mm, and are just superb, and have added considerable detail to these German cavalry. Once again many thanks Pete for your kind gesture and i look forward to utilizing them to add colour and detail to my future Landsknechts!

15mm Legio Heroica Swiss pikes.

That's my first mass infantry formation in 15mm under my belt, 72 Swiss and hasn't taken nearly as much time as the 28s did! The LH figures are terrific and next on the list is 24 of their Burgundian archers, which are under way even as I post these.
  Happy weekend all!

15mm Renaissance french Gendarmes

All based up and ready to kick some Imperialist backsides, or as happened at Pavia, have there backsides kicked! All the flags are the excellent petes paper flags. On the Renaissance front I intend to stick to the same theme and paint some Imperialist cavalry, a unit of 12 mounted heavy German cavalry and 12 heavy Spanish cavalry, so at least that would be the heavy cav types represented!

15mm french Gendarmes

That's the last group of 18 French Gendarmes completed , so I can now return to finishing the few remaining Swiss to complete the 72 figure pikebloc, and then on to 24 Burgundian archers.

Francis I and 15mm french Gendarmes.

These are some of the Essex 15mm Gendarmes I ordered, to make a start on the Renaissance period,  they are superb little sculpts and at just over £20 including postage for 18 of these little beauties you cannot grumble at the price too!
The French king is to the right of the Royal banner bearer and I based the decoration of rider and horse on the work of art in ospreys battle of Pavia p90-91
They have moulded on lances which are very sturdy and strong compared to the mirliton burgundian knights lances ,and the flags are the 15mm paper flags from petes flags.
Have a nice weekend all!

28mm Swiss Halberdiers.

Finally finished the basing on these Swiss, and I guess these may well be the last 28mm figures to appear here for some time. I have discovered a new world in 15mm scale and aim to cover the Burgundian wars and Italian wars  which keeps me in the 1470s to 1530s period( Nothing wrong with that !).
